High Voltage Technician

My client is seeking a ‘Hands-on’ High Voltage Electrical Engineer with solid field experience.  Their preferred candidate will be required to develop and implement maintenance schedules on electrical equipment and systems, with prior experience necessary in dealing with High Voltage and Power Generators, including Substations and Transformers. The crucial aspect of this role is the ability to carry out work on high voltage electricity in the field as this position will be the only qualified HV electrician in the company.

Qualifications Required:

8 to 10 Years ‘ experience with High Voltage Electrical Maintenance and Certificate of completion of electrical certificates obtained from a vocational technical college or an associate degree in HV Electrical, along with strong communication and administration skills, a valid Driver’s License, and the ability to work independently as well as alongside a diverse group of people.

Responsibilities and expertise required:

• Previous Power Station experience a must.
• 24/7 emergency on call response with timely solutions for resolution of electrical issues is required
• Experience of working in Caribbean Islands, hardship locations or developing countries is considered important.
• Knowledge and hands on experience with High Voltage joining and termination of 11KV High Voltage Cables.
• The candidate must be able to carry out practical work in the field.
• Ensure correct Maintenance and servicing of the Generator and Switchgear is scheduled and carried out
• Ensure testing of Transformers – Switchgear oils
• Ensure correct Maintenance of HV – LV Switchgear is carried out
• Ability to read and interpret Technical Manuals, Mechanical and Electrical Drawings,
• Engineering Standards with applicable regulatory codes
• Experience of HV Generators, knowledge of Generator Control Systems, Load Sharing and Generator AVR
• Implement program of PPM and Carry out planned Maintenance programing of all Electrical Equipment
• Experience of HV – LV Distribution systems with ring main units, HV Protection relays and Testing
• Knowledge of using High Voltage Test Equipment
• Operates various components on the medium and High Voltage distribution Electrical, system including isolation Switches, Capacitor banks, Transformer, Voltage regulations.
• Ensure all necessary HV isolation and repairs are carried out Safely
• Establish a good relationship with local power supply (APUA) Generation, Transmission, and Distribution Department
• Need to be Familiar with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
